Interin1 Report on E-l/ Ccci Benchmarks*

£-L is an experimental software engineering environment and a programming language. An E-L program can be translated into executable code for the MC68020 by means of a Coagulating Code Generator (CCG) [K84a, K8clb, :v10r91]. Code produced by E-L/CCG is superior to that produced by a good optimizing C compiler (gee) on a suite of 10 benchmark programs. We present the benchmark results and, based on our experience with the benchmarks, draw preliminary conclusions on the strengths of CCG as opposed to more traditional compilers.
